TWO TREBLES ON THE DOUBLE Lanark ASC swimmers were once again in excellent form at the recent West District Long Course Championships at Tollcross. Victoria Gourlay (14 & over) and Euan McComish (10/11) both won three District Titles and set two new District Records each. Victoria won the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke and Euan won the 200m butterfly, 800m freestyle and 1500m freestyle. Victoria's records came in the 50m and 100m breaststroke and Euan's in the 800m and 1500m freestyle. Victoria was second in the 200m I.M. and Euan was third in the 400m freestyle, fourth in the 100m butterfly, fifth in the 100m freestyle and sixth in the 200m freestyle. Nine other Lanark swimmers also achieved top six finishes. Katie McIntyre (10/11) was second in the 400m I.M, third in the 200m I.M and 200m breaststroke, fifth in the 50m breaststroke and sixth in the 100m breaststroke. Also competing in the 10/11 years section was Alastair Gourlay who was third in the 1500m freestyle, fifth in the 200m backstroke and sixth in the 100m backstroke. Alyson Henderson (12) was fourth in both the 200m butterfly and 800m freestyle. Robyn Patrick was sixth in the 100m breaststroke in the same age group. In the thirteen year old section Maya Andrew had seven top six finishes. She was third in the 200m butterfly, 100m backstroke and 1500m freestyle, fourth in the 100m butterfly and 200m backstroke, fifth in the 50m butterfly and sixth in the 50m backstroke. Recording personal best times were Craig McCulloch, Morven McNab and Chris Wilson. A delighted coach Karen Kelly said after the Championships "All the swimmers can be proud of themselves. Euan and Victoria have now joined Katie McIntyre in breaking West District records in 2010, a great feat for a small Club like Lanark. For the fourth successive West District Championships we finished top Club in Lanarkshire." |
