Mini League, Larkhall & Kilmarnock Centenary Gala

Lanark Amateur Swimming Club had another successful weekend at the Mini-league at Larkhall and the Kilmarnock Centenary Gala held at Kilmarnock.

The Larkhall Mini-League saw the local swimmers win seven top three pennants. Ten year old Katie Donald was first in the 100m backstroke and 200m freestyle. Anna Britton (10u) was second in the 50m backstroke. Katie McIntyre (11) and Robyn Patrick (12) both won their respective 200m IM races as did Euan McComish (11). Alastair Gourlay was second to Euan.

At Kilmarnock Lanark competed in a team event against Kilmarnock A, Kilmarnock B, Dunoon and Rutherglen. Although Lanark were trailing Rutherglen after the butterfly, backstroke and breaststroke legs they overtook their Lanarkshire rivals after the freestyle section and managed to hold off a strong challenge in the relay events to win by two points. The final scores in an excellent sporting competition were Lanark 197, Rutherglen 195, Kilmarnock A 183, Dunoon 137 and Kilmarnock B 72.

Commenting after a hard fought contest coach Karen Kelly said "I said to the swimmers that they all had a part to play, that every point would be vital. From the eight to the eighteen year olds, they all took this on board. They all can take a bow and be satisfied with a job well done."
