West District Championships, Cumbernauld - February 2010 |

Lanark ASC were once again in action when eleven of the younger swimmers competed in the recent West District Championships held at Cumbernauld. The club now has a new West District Champion. Twelve year old Cameron Watkins won the 10/12 years boy's 100m Breaststroke. He also won three silver medals, 100m Backstroke, 200m Backstroke and 100m Freestyle and also won three bronze medals, 100m Butterfly, 200m Breaststroke and 200m Freestyle. Twelve year old Lorna Gemmell won silver in the 200m Breaststroke and 400m I.M., bronze in the 200m Butterfly and 100m Breaststroke, fourth in the 100m Butterfly and fifth in the 200m I.M. Six other swimmers competed in the 10/12 years section - 10 year old's Euan McComish 200m Butterfly and Alastair Gourlay 200m Backstroke had super swims posting personal best times which are consideration times for the Scottish National Age Group Championships in April. Katie McIntyre, Robyn Patrick, Alyson Henderson and Craig McCulloch also set new personal best times. Jack McComish, Maya Andrew and Morven McNab competed in the 13/14 years age group. Jack had seven top six finishes. He was second in the 200m Freestyle, third in the 100m Breaststroke and 100m Freestyle, 4th in the 200m Breaststroke and 1500m Freestyle in a new club record time of 17.36.32, and fifth in the 100m Butterfly. Morven McNab was second in the 200m Breaststroke and fifth in the 100m Breaststroke. Maya Andrew was sixth in the 200m Butterfly and claimed her first ever Club Record in the 200m Backstroke in a time of 2.31.25. Coach Karen Kelly was delighted with the efforts of all the swimmers stating "We finished fifth best club in the West District and were the highest placed Lanarkshire Club. Well done to all swimmers".
