West District Championships @ Cumbernauld

Nineteen Lanark ASC swimmers competed for the Club at the last West District Championships of 2011 held at Cumbernauld.  All the events were held over the 200m distance.

Top performance by a Lanark swimmers was Ross McCafferty who won the 16 years & over 200m Backstroke in a superb time of 2.03.44, shattering his own club record by over 4 seconds. He was second in the 200m Freestyle in a new club record time of 1.57.19.

In the same age group Jack McComish set a new Club mark to finish second in the 200m Breaststroke 2.26.94 and was third in the 200m Butterfly in yet another Club record time of 2.14.35.

Maya Andrew in the fifteen years age group won the 200m Backstroke in a Club Record time of 2.23.49, and also picked up a silver in the Butterfly and was fourth in the Freestyle and fifth in the Breaststroke.

Morven McNab (15) took first place in the Breaststroke and fifth in the Butterfly.

Fourteen year old Cameron Watkins dipped under the 2 minute mark to win the 200m Freestyle and finished third in the Backstroke and fourth in the Breaststroke.

In the same age group Lorna Gemmell was second in the Butterfly and third in the Breaststroke.  Alyson Henderson was fourth in the Butterfly.

Thirteen year old's Robyn Patrick and Billy Davies both won bronze in the 200m Breaststroke.

Katie McIntyre (10/12) was second in the Breaststroke and sixth in the Butterfly, and

There was a silver medal for Alastair Gourlay in the Backstroke while Euan McComish

finished third in the Freestyle and fifth in the Breaststroke.

After the two day meet Coach Karen Kelly said ‘It was a good weekend's work by the swimmers. Ross McCafferty's Backstroke was undoubtedly the swim of the meet for us from his start, technique, turns and finish, a shining example to all our swimmers.
