Six Lanark Amateur Swimming Club swimmers travelled to the Highland capital of Inverness as part of the South Lanarkshire Swimming Team who competed at the Scottish National Short Course Championships. Ross McCafferty continued his recent fine form to reach four finals. He finished 4th in the 400m Individual Medley, 5th in the 200m Backstroke and 100m Backstroke and 6th in the 50m Backstroke. Jack McComish reached three ‘B' finals finishing 4th in the 200m Breaststroke, 5th in the 200m Freestyle and 7th in the 100m Breaststroke. Ross set three new Club records while Jack set two. The rest of the Lanark swimmers also posted some excellent times. Maya Andrew broke her own Club record for the 100m Backstroke and there were personal best times for Katie McIntyre, Robyn Patrick and Cameron Watkins.
After the four day Meet coach Karen Kelly said ‘The Lanark swimmers put in a great effort. It was a learning curve for the young swimmers staying away from home for the Nationals as they are normally held at Tollcross Pool, Glasgow. Four finals for Ross was an excellent return for his hard work and Jack was strong in the Freestyle events. Fourteen year old Cameron more than held his own with older swimmers and Maya had a good four days. Twelve year old Katie and thirteen year old Robyn gained vital experience in a Senior Meet. |
